LKQ Proud to Serve – Gary Dean

Gary Dean, Inside Sales Manager – Greenville, SC

Gary has been the Cubmaster of Pack 227 for almost nine years, and started his Troop three years ago in Liberty, South Carolina. Gary’s journey with Boy Scouts began at a young age, where he was enrolled due to his father being gone often for work. He credits his Scoutmaster, Jim, for molding him into the man he is today, and helping him achieve Eagle Scout status. Thanks to Jim’s leadership, Gary knew he wanted to pay It forward in the years to come.

Currently, Gary’s Troop and Pack are very active and frequently go on exciting trips. On their most recent experience, they visited the Naval Academy in Maryland, where Gary led his scouts on a tour of the grounds and lunch with the Midshipmen. Gary’s scouts were also given the opportunity to run the Navy ship simulator, take a leadership skills class, and receive guidance and information about attending the Academy if interested.

While on the trip, Gary also found out many of his scouts had never been to Washington, DC and took them on a detour to the Capital. Gary tells us: “Working with these young men is a true blessing. I will never forget the looks on their faces when they saw the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, and mostly the Vietnam Memorial.”

Gary’s Pack and Troop also do many service projects, which include: collecting food for their local food bank in their community to help the needy and putting US Flags on the graves of soldiers. Gary’s Pack and Troop have also helped our very own LKQ employees in Baton Rouge who were hit by floods, collecting a box truck full of food, water, clothes, and other supplies.
