Back in 1998, the world saw a fragmented Salvage and recycled auto parts industry. Our founders, however, saw an opportunity — To provide quality, high-value alternatives for the automotive replacement parts marketplace.
Since then, we have continued driving forward, with a commitment to continuous improvement, finding creative solutions, adapting to the ever-changing competitive landscape, and providing aftermarket and recycled auto parts.
LKQ Corporation is the leading provider of alternative aftermarket, specialty salvage and recycled auto parts to repair and accessorize vehicles, with operations in North America, Europe, and Taiwan. We offer our customers a broad range of replacement discount auto parts including remanufactured engines and transmissions, components, equipment, as well as OE aftermarket parts to repair and accessorize consumer automobiles and trucks, heavy truck, recreational and performance vehicles.
“To be the leading global value-added and sustainable distributor of vehicle parts and accessories by offering our customers the most comprehensive, available, and cost-effective selection of parts and service solutions while building strong partnerships with our employees and the communities in which we operate.”
LKQ was initially formed in 1998 through the combination of a number of wholesale recycled products businesses located in Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. We subsequently expanded globally through internal development and approximately 270 acquisitions of aftermarket, recycled, refurbished, and remanufactured product suppliers and manufacturers, self-service retail businesses, and specialty vehicle aftermarket equipment and accessories suppliers.
This series showcases companies that are helping to preserve our planet through eco-friendly initiatives and innovative technologies and solutions.

You may have heard of some of our brands like Keystone Automotive Industries with the ever-popular Platinum Refinish, and someone you know has visited one of our Pick-Your-Part locations to get a replacement part for their car. Elitek moves us forward with vehicle diagnostic services, providing you with expert knowledge as vehicle computer systems get more and more complex. Auto Data Labels with easy online ordering for any vehicle or safety label needs, and a vast network of LKQ locations to deliver both OE aftermarket and recycled auto parts where and when you need them.
Our North America segment is comprised of wholesale operations, which consists of aftermarket and recycled parts operations, self service retail operations, and heavy truck operations. LKQ also recently entered the vehicle diagnostic services business with our acquisition of Elite Electronics in 2019.
We are the largest provider of alternative vehicle collision replacement products and a leading provider of alternative vehicle mechanical replacement products, with our sales, processing, and distribution facilities reaching most major markets in North America.
Our Specialty operating segment was formed in 2014 with our acquisition of Keystone Specialty, a leading distributor and marketer of specialty vehicle aftermarket products and accessories in North America. Our Specialty operations reach most major markets in the U.S. and Canada and serve the following six product segments: RV; truck and off-road; towing; speed and performance; wheels, tires and performance handling; and miscellaneous accessories.
Our Europe segment was built on four key acquisitions: Euro Car Parts (ECP) (2011), Sator (2013), Rhiag (2016) and Stahlgruber (2018). Additionally, in 2014 we expanded our European segment to include wholesale recycling operations through our acquisition of a business with salvage and vehicle repair facilities in Sweden and Norway, and in 2016, we acquired an equity investment in Mekonomen AB (“Mekonomen”), the leading independent car parts and service chain in the Nordic region of Europe.
We strive to be a responsible corporate citizen with respect to environmental, social and governance matters. We take pride in being the largest recycler in the automotive industry.
